Sometimes a tooth is chipped or stained, but the total damage to your smile is minimal. In these cases, dental bonding is an excellent option.
This simple procedure involves Dr. Doueck applying a small amount of tooth-colored resin to the surface of your teeth, and then we use a special light to harden the resin and restore your smile. The procedure is simple, painless, and only takes about an hour to complete.
Dental bonding can be used to counteract many conditions, including:
- Decayed teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Severely stained teeth
- Misshaped or misstructured teeth
- Exposed tooth-root
The Dental Bonding Process
Doueck Dental & Restorative Dentistry
Due to the minimal discomfort associated with dental bonding, the process rarely requires any form of anesthetic. The first step we’ll take is ensuring the bonding material is the perfect color to match your smile. To select the right color, we’ll use a shade guide.
After identifying the perfect shade of resin, the surface of the tooth is roughened, and a conditioning material is added. The conditioning material helps the resin stick to the tooth, increasing the stability of your treatment.
Once the conditioning material has set in, Dr. Doueck will add the tooth-colored resin to the concerned area. At this point in the process, the resin is malleable, and he’ll use his expertise to smooth the surfaces and achieve the desired effect.
A special light is used in 15-second intervals until the resin is completely hardened. Once the bonding material is tempered, Dr. Doueck will continue to polish and trim the surface of the tooth until your smile looks perfect.
The dental bonding process usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete. After Dr. Doueck says you’re done, you’ll be ready to start smiling with confidence again.
Dental Bonding: Care & Longevity
Dental bonding is one of the most straightforward and most affordable cosmetic procedures. Bonding material generally lasts from three to ten years before it needs to be replaced—depending on the amount of bonding done and your oral habits.
Caring for your smile after dental bonding treatment doesn’t require any special treatment. If you follow good oral hygiene practices by brushing, flossing, rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash daily, and visiting Dr. Doueck for routine check-ups, your beautiful restoration can last for years.
